Construction at Hillcrest School is to begin Friday, May 23, 2014. You are invited for a "Last Look" Open House on Wednesday, May 21 from 5 to 7 PM.

Dear Hillcrest School Families,
I’m writing to update you on some new information about our school bond project. The district has received construction bids for our project, and unfortunately, the bids were over budget. Our construction manager, McCownGordon, has reviewed the bids and continues to work with current low bidders to evaluate possible changes. We are committed to protecting the priorities of the project, such as safety and educational programming improvements. There will be no decrease in classroom space. The team is taking a look at construction materials, mechanical equipment and considering several space and structural re-design possibilities.
We have already identified a new plan for the phasing of the project, shifting more work to the summer of 2015. Construction will begin this summer and be completed by August of 2015 as originally planned. It will probably be 3-5 weeks before we identify final plan changes. District and project staff will report final changes to our school-based Construction and Design Committee.
It’s not appropriate for us to discuss specifics with regard to construction bids, since we are currently in the negotiations phase of the bid process. I will continue to keep our Construction and Design Committee, Hillcrest staff and school families informed as we move forward with our project. I know that we’re all excited about the positive changes in store for Hillcrest Elementary School!
